New England Equal Longest Winning Streak Since Brady Era with Win Against Jets
Rookie Henderson has tallied five TDs in the present year
The New England Patriots matched their longest winning run from the Tom Brady period as they defeated division rivals the New York Jets 27-14 in the NFL
First-year standout Henderson was the standout with three scores as the Patriots claimed an eighth straight win for the first time since iconic QB Tom Brady's closing campaign with the team in 2019
QB Drake Maye passed for 281 passing yards and a score, connecting on 25 passes from 34 throws
The triumph extends the Patriots advantage at the summit of the AFC East as they moved to a 9-2 record, with the New York at the foot after dropping to two victories and eight defeats
The opposing team had scored first at Foxborough with quarterback Justin Fields running in a five-yard TD to finish the Jets' opening drive
But the New England responded in the second quarter as Henderson ran in two seven-yard touchdowns before the running back hauled in a throw from Maye at the back of the endzone in the middle of the third quarter to push the score to 21 to 7
"That was a crucial moment for him stepping up, and it's been fantastic for him to keep getting these reps," the quarterback said of the rookie. "He wants to be excellent."
Justin Fields threw to John Metchie in the latter part of the third period to narrow the deficit for the visitors but Andy Borregales booted a two field goals in the final period as the Patriots wrapped up the win
